A staffer at Cal State Fullerton was stabbed to death on campus Monday, the first day of the school year — and his attacker is still at large, police said.
The victim, identified only as an Asian man in his late 50s, was found around 8:30 a.m. inside a silver Infiniti sedan in a campus parking lot, with stab wounds all over his body, Fullerton Police Department Lt. Jon Radus said.
The school worker was a retired faculty member who now worked in international student registration, cops said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect was described as an Asian man in his mid-20s with black hair, who was wearing an all-black ensemble.
“There is obviously the belief at this particular point in time that the faculty member… was targeted,” Radus said. “Of course that will be part of our investigation.”
The slaying took place amid preparations doe the 2019-2020 academic year, which began on Monday. Classes are set to begin Saturday.
Cal State warned students not to confront the suspect.
The school was the site of a 1976 mass shooting, where custodian Edward Charles Allaway killed seven people and injured two others with a semi-automatic rifle he bought at a Kmart. He was found not guilty by reason of insanity and is currently institutionalized at the Napa State Hospital.
