A naked, hours-old baby was found abandoned in the woods in Maryland after a passerby heard the newborn’s cries, police said.
A man was walking along Tenbrook Drive in Silver Spring around 5 p.m. Friday when he heard noise coming from a wooded area, the Montgomery County Police Department said in a statement.
When he went to look, he found the unattended baby — without so much as a diaper on — about 10 feet from the sidewalk, authorities said.
The baby was taken to a local hospital, where she is listed in stable condition, police said.
Medical personnel told police that she was born only a few hours before she was found.
Authorities located the baby’s mother two days later, saying she, too, was receiving medical care.
The baby remained at the hospital under the care of Montgomery County Child Welfare Services, police said.
Authorities did not immediately release information about who left the child in the woods or why.
