By the power of Grayskull — bring back He-Man!
The ruler of Eternia is returning to TV screens by way of Netflix, filmmaker Kevin Smith revealed Sunday in a surprise announcement at the Power-Con convention.
“Masters of the Universe: Revelation” will build on story lines from the original ’80s show and its Mattel toy-inspired world, Variety reports.
“I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe,” says Smith, who will be the series’ showrunner and executive producer.
“In ‘Revelation,’ we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor!,” Smith says. “Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!”
Vice president of Mattel TV Rob David will executive produce with Mattel Television.
The cult classic began as a line of action dolls before debuting as a TV show in 1983, and coming to the silver screen in 1987. A new film starring “To All the Boys I Loved Before” actor Noah Centineo is also reportedly in the works.
