Antonio Basco, 61, made headlines after thousands from around the country turned out on Friday for his wife Margie Reckerd’s funeral.

But the same weekend that mourners packed Le Paz Faith Memorial & Spiritual Center, it emerged that his blue Ford Escape was stolen from his home.

In a Facebook post, Vanessa Kondow said Basco’s SUV was found smashed up Saturday night.

“WTF is wrong with people!? He just buried his wife yesterday and now this s–t,” Kondow, whose husband is a towing dispatcher, wrote on a Facebook group for El Paso residents.

Kondow said Basco recently had his vehicle completely serviced and repaired before it was stolen.

“He told my husband that whoever took it also stole a pressure washing machine from a small trailer he used to use for mobile car washing,” she wrote along with photos of the destroyed vehicle.

Local Ford and Nissan dealerships said they plan to help Basco get a replacement vehicle, news station KVIA reported.

Basco made the plea for members of the public to show up at his wife’s funeral, fearing he would grieve alone because the couple didn’t have any local relatives. So many people showed up that hundreds were forced to wait outside in 100-degree heat.
