An innocent woman was shot in the arm while walking home from work early Wednesday in a hail of gunfire from a shooter on a motor scooter in the Bronx.
Victim Lucrecia Bencosme Pena, 56, told The Post she was walking on Fordham Road to University Avenue to avoid any crime on “the small roads” at night, as she made her way home from the subway after getting off work at Citi Field Wednesday night.
But gunfire still found her just before 12:30 a.m. on University Avenue near West 188th Street, according to police.
“How you doing?” the scooter rider asked of Pena before opening fire on a bicyclist in front of her, she told The Post.
“I saw ‘pop, pop, pop, pop, pop’ … I didn’t see anything else,” Pena said. “I tried to run because I knew they were shooting, but I saw my arm was bleeding and I said ‘Holy Jesus!'”
The woman was hit in the left arm and the bullet remained there hours after being taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, she said.
“We have a second appointment, but the bullet is still in the arm,” she said.
The gunman was targeting a man riding a bicycle in front of the woman, according to sources.
“About seven, eight shots … rapid-fire,” a bodega worker, who declined to give his name, told The Post. “Boom boom boom. I was right here [behind the counter]. The last one went through [the metal gate], shattered the glass.”
