A bus in Pakistan plunged into a river, leaving 24 dead.
The accident happened in the country’s mountainous northwest after a bridge carrying the vehicle collapsed into the water, the country’s News18 reported.
The victims had all been members of an extended family that had been returning from a wedding, according to the Associated Press.
The family all came from the Upper Kohistan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Rescue efforts were delayed by the remoteness of the area, rocky terrain and a lack of proper rescue equipment, police officials said.
“It is a rugged mountainous area with no communication facilities and the people engaged in rescue activities are facing difficulties because of darkness,” district police chief Raja Abdul Saboor told News18.
