A man was shot and killed by cops in Nassau County Tuesday evening when he lunged at the officers with a samurai sword, police said.
Officers responded to a house on Columbus Avenue in Oceanside soon after 6 p.m., when they were confronted by the man who has a history of mental illness, according to Newsday.
The man’s father had called police on him, the report said.
As he lunged at the cops, they opened fire and downed him, according to cops.
“The son had charged at the officers with multiple knives in his hand, one being a sword,” Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said near the scene Tuesday evening, according to Newsday.
The man was not immediately identified.
Four officers were injured during the confrontation, including one who was hurt in a car crash while responding to the scene, according to the report.
