One firing, two promotions.
“Saturday Night Live” may have just axed Shane Gillis, but the show is promoting two current featured players to cast members, Deadline reports.
Heidi Gardner and Chris Redd will reportedly be given spots as repertory players for the upcoming Season 45.
A source close to the show confirmed to The Post that the promotions are happening.
Both Gardner and Redd joined “SNL” in 2017 and, as Deadline points out, the show typically promotes featured players in their third season. Redd is known for his spot-on impersonation of Kanye West while Gardner is known for her portrayals of Drew Barrymore and Allison Janney.
“SNL” recently announced newcomers Bowen Yang and Chloe Fineman as featured players. Gillis was initially part of the new cast additions but sparked fury when his past racist and homophobic jokes resurfaced online.
Despite his attempt to apologize, NBC and “SNL” fired the comedian, stating the “language he used is offensive, hurtful and unacceptable.”
The new “Saturday Night Live” season will commence this Saturday, with Woody Harrelson returning to host.
