Dogs like to go for walks — but this pooch takes the cake.
A pet husky who went missing in California turned up 700 miles away in New Mexico — and no one can figure out how she got there, according to KVIA-TV in Texas.
A student at New Mexico State University stumbled onto the friendly pooch in Las Cruces nearly two months ago and took her in, naming her Annie.
“I thought maybe she was on a vacation or something,” Juan Treto told the station. “I could tell that she just wanted to be loved.”
Treto doted on the pup for six weeks, then decided to take Annie to a pet expo to find out more about her. That’s when a canine specialist determined she had a chip implant with her owner’s info.
Treto reached out to Jessica Smith in Orange County, California, whose family had given up all hope of seeing their beloved pet again — and are still baffled about how the dog ended up three states away.
“I have two daughters and they’ve been heartbroken,” Smith told KVIA. “I just honestly didn’t think that we were ever going to hear about her again.”
“It’s kind of like a dream,” Smith said. “I’ve heard situations that have happened, but not like states away. I can’t even think how she got over there.”
It was bittersweet for Treto, who had grown attached to the dog but knew she belonged at home.
Her name, it turns out, is Bella.
