The Patriots plan to sign former Jets kicker Mike Nugent after Stephen Gostkowski was placed on the injured reserve from a left hip injury, ESPN reported Thursday.
Nugent, who was drafted by the Jets in the second round (47th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft, was one of seven kickers that New England looked at over the past two days. The 37-year-old is 253-of-311 on field goal attempts in his career.
Nugent has kicked for the Jets, Buccaneers, Cardinals, Bengals, Cowboys, Bears and Raiders. Nugent also had a stint with the Giants in the 2017 offseason before getting cut.
The Patriots also worked out Kai Forbath, Blair Walsh, Elliot Fry, Matthew Wright, Younghoe Koo and Josh Gable.
Koo did impress enough to land on the Patriots practice squad. The 25-year-old played in four games for the Chargers as a rookie in 2017, but was cut after missing 3-of-6 field goals.
