Amid speculation that Stefon Diggs wants out of Minnesota, the wide receiver said he hadn’t formally request a trade but there is “truth to all rumors.”
Speaking to the media for the first time in two weeks on Thursday, Diggs was vague and nonchalant while addressing questions on his status with the Vikings. He also claimed he missed practice on Wednesday, which came with a “not injury related” designation, because of a cold.
Diggs would not say if his agent had requested a trade.
“I haven’t spoke to him about it,” Diggs said. “You’ve got to talk to him.”
“I haven’t communicated anything,” Diggs said when asked whether he has officially requested to be traded. “The conversations I’ve had [with the Vikings] have only been about team and trying to have success on the field.”
ESPN reported the Vikings had no intention of trading the receiver they drafted in the fifth round (146th overall) in 2015. However, Diggs has sent a series of ambiguous tweets recently alluding to potential unhappiness amid a frustrating start to the Vikings season. Diggs, who signed a five-year extension with Minnesota in July of 2018, has reportedly been unhappy for weeks.
“It’s not one thing,” Diggs said. “It’s not one specific thing that would make me more satisfied. I feel like at this point, I’ve been here for a while. I’ve been here for a couple years, so just kind of getting through it and going through the motions and acting like I’ve been in this space for a minute. We are where we are right now, and I’m saying a lot to say nothing right now, so you can get where this interview is going to go.
“If you want to win and you’re not winning, of course you’ll be frustrated. That’s my answer.”
The star wideout said he spoke to “everybody” in the organization, including teammates and general manager Rick Spielman, about the Vikings’ offense, which struggled immensely in their 16-6 loss to the Bears in Week 4.
But Diggs says whether or not he’ll stay in Minnesota will depend on if “they want me here.”
“I can’t sit up here and act like everything is OK,” he said. “It’s obviously not. But what I can say at this point: Just trying to work through it.”
