HOUSTON — Twins bench coach Derek Shelton is getting a second interview with the Mets as they pursue a successor to Mickey Callaway, The Post has learned.
Joe Girardi was to get his second interview Tuesday, Eduardo Perez on Wednesday and Tim Bogar on Thursday. Carlos Beltran and Luis Rojas also are believed to be getting second interviews.
Mike Bell and Skip Schumaker, who had been part of the first round of interviews, are not getting second interviews.
Girardi is the perceived frontrunner with the Phillies, but that he is still taking the interview with the Mets suggests he finds their job at least as intriguing.
Shelton has worked as a major or minor league coach for the Yankees, Indians, Rays and Blue Jays, and in 2019, he worked with Twins rookie manager Rocco Baldelli. He is also a candidate for the Pirates’ managerial opening.
