Nearly two months after the Red Sox fired general manager Dave Dombrowski, the franchise is zeroing in on his replacement.
Tampa Bay Rays vice president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom is the team’s pick to take over the front office, according to The Athletic, though it is not known if he plans to accept. The Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed Bloom is a serious contender for the job.
Bloom, who interviewed for the Mets’ job that went to Brodie Van Wagenen last offseason, has long been tabbed as a future GM by those in the industry.
The 36-year-old Yale graduate is already a veteran of 15 seasons in the Rays front office, having worked in minor league operations before joining baseball ops in 2011.
A Philadelphia native, Bloom is also rumored to have been in the mix for GM jobs with the Giants, Twins and Phillies in recent seasons.
The Red Sox fired Dombrowski after failing to get to the playoffs following a World Series title in 2018.
