A 2-year-old boy trapped in a well in India for more than three days was found dead late Monday local time, a report said.
The decomposed body of Sujith Wilson was discovered by rescue workers after they noticed a foul odor coming from the 600-foot borewell in the state of Tamil Nadu, the New Indian Express reported.
“We observed a stench emanating from the borewell at around 9:30 p.m.” Tamil Nadu revenue principal secretary J. Radhakrishnan told reporters early Tuesday local time.
“It was confirmed that Sujith is no more. We found his body to be highly decomposed and dismembered.”
Sujith plunged into the well Friday while playing with his cousins, the report said.
At first the toddler was stuck about 30 feet below the surface, but he eventually slid deeper into the well.
Hundreds of people, many crying, went to the Fathima Puthur village crematorium later Tuesday morning to attend Sujith’s burial, according to the New Indian Express.
