A Missouri mother helped beat up a 14-year-old boy — because he refused to return her son’s expensive shirt, police said.
Tonya Carrillo, 43, was charged last week after the victim told police he was assaulted by a group of people — including the woman’s 16-year-old son — over the pricey duds outside Fort Zumwalt West High School, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
The victim told police that another man with Carrillo and her son hit him with a handgun during the alleged July assault, which Carrillo said the teen had coming to him, according to a probable cause statement.
“[He] needed this kind of beat down because his parents do not seem to care about his behavior,” Carrillo told police in O’Fallon.
Carrillo denied that a handgun was used during the attack but told police she hopes the 14-year-old “learns from the incident,” while adding that she fully supports her own son.
Surveillance video of the July 18 beatdown shows Carrillo’s son and three other people attacking the teen before the woman and another man hop out of a car that pulls up. The teen is then hit in the face by a man holding a handgun and Carrillo can be seen kicking the youngster, the Post-Dispatch reported.
Carrillo later told police that the victim refused to return her son’s shirt, which he was going to simply let go. But Carrillo insisted that he get the shirt back because she bought it and “could not let [the victim] ‘punk’ her son,” KMOV reported.
The mom is also accused of giving police a fake name when asked about the man who allegedly pistol-whipped the teen, leaving him with a dislocated bridge of his nose, as well as cuts to his head and hands and bruising to his back, KMOV reported.
Investigators have since identified the man as Eric Jones. He’s still being sought by police, according to the station.
Carrillo, who was ordered held on $25,000 bond, has also contacted the victim and his family at their home since the alleged attack, police said.
