The Jets are not going to have inside linebacker C.J. Mosley back for a while, if at all.
Jets coach Adam Gase said Mosley will be out at least another five or six weeks with the groin injury that has sidelined him for most of the season. That would take the Jets into mid-December and they would then have to determine whether it is worth him returning.
“He went to a specialist that he trusts and basically they’re going to try something different than surgery,” Gase said Monday, “and really, the time frame they gave us was five to six weeks. We just thought that was, for us, it’s better to leave him on the roster, kind of see where we’re at when we hit that point, see kind of where we are with our season and then make a determination after that.”
The Jets signed Mosley to a five-year, $85 million contract in March with $51 million guaranteed. Mosley missed three games in five years with the Ravens, but now looks like he could miss all but two games in his first year with the Jets.
Mosley injured the groin against the Bills in Week 1. He returned last week against the Patriots, but did not look like himself at all.
The Jets are missing both of their projected inside linebackers. Avery Williamson tore his ACL in August and is out for the year.
