Kazeem Famuyide opens the show reacting to a thrilling first Knicks win Monday night over the Bulls after they lost their first three games of the season.
Kaz is joined by NY Post Knicks beat writer Marc Berman to chat about the buzz in the locker room after a win, RJ Barrett’s strong play and David Fizdale’s lineups so far this season.
Knicks legend Charles Oakley then joins the show to talk about the current team, Kevin Durant saying the Knicks aren’t cool and the possibility of Oakley returning to Madison Square Garden and getting his number retired in the rafters.
On dream scenario coming back to Madison Square Garden:
Oakley: We’ll have to wait and see. We still got some things that still need to be worked out. I’m always willing to work stuff out, because I’m that type of guy. But I don’t know if the door is open. Sometimes the door’s open doesn’t mean you can come in. I’ll have to wait and see.
On Kevin Durant’s comments that the Knicks aren’t cool:
Oakley: You gotta take it personal when someone says something about them. When you feel like someone’s throwing you under the bus or something, you got a good attitude and have attitude at all times. People are gonna say what they wanna say. But you gotta prove them wrong. When you prove them wrong, that’s better. Until you prove them wrong, they got a point.
On this Knicks team and their comments on toughness compared to the 90s Knicks:
Oakley: If you feel you’re trying to put a blueprint on something, you got to do it. You got to win games first of all. They have been playing tough. I think just go out and let the fans determine what style of ball you play. When they get a solid seven- or eight-guy rotation, that will play out a lot more, too. Right now, guys really don’t understand when they are going to play, how many minutes they’re going to play. When you start getting consistent with the minutes and the flow of the guys on the court together, that will mean a lot, so you know what you can do, what you can’t do. That’s how you come together as a team.
