President Trump has pledged to release the text of another phone call with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky next week — a talk that happened months before the controversial July 25 conversation which sparked the impeachment probe.
“Read the transcript. It’s all about the transcript,” Trump told reporters Saturday as he prepared to board Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews. “We have another transcript coming out, which is very important. They asked for it, and I gladly give it. There’s never been a President who’s been so transparent.”
Trump placed a call to Zelensky in April, to congratulate the then newly-elected leader on his political victory.
The April call is not expected to contain any bombshells – but the White House has been reluctant to release it.
“It sets a bad precedent,” Trump said Friday.
Trump’s July call, in which he asked for Zelensky’s help with investigations of former Vice President Joe Biden’s son Hunter, as well as foreign interference in the 2016 election, sparked the whistleblower complaint that House Democrats are investigating.
