‘A Christmas Carol’ trailer: Guy Pearce is ‘f–king’ Scrooge for FX

“A Christmas Carol” is getting a potty-mouthed revamp.

Guy Pearce, 52, stars as bitter, battered businessman Ebenezer Scrooge, who is visited by various spirits to learn the true meaning of Christmas in this visually dark, violent and cinematic trailer for the FX film adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens holiday tale.

The network describes the reboot, premiering at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 19, as “a spine-tingling immersion into Scrooge’s dark night of the soul.”

How dark does it get? After Scrooge’s deceased colleague Jacob Marley (Stephen Graham) is given his chains to bear in the afterlife, Marley is seen yelling at the top of his lungs as he gets dragged through a snow-covered forest by a fast-racing horse-drawn carriage.

Later, resentful miser Scrooge is threatened by Mary Cratchit (Vinette Robinson, 38), the wife of his oft-abused clerk Bob Cratchit.

“I am a woman and I have the power to summon such spirits,” Mary spits at Scrooge, adding, “and I f–king will.” (We don’t remember that line from Dickens’ book.)

The film also stars Andy Serkis, 55, as the Ghost of Christmas Past; Stephen Graham, 46, as Jacob Marley; Charlotte Riley, 37 as Lottie/the Ghost of Christmas Present; Joe Alwyn, 28, as Bob Cratchit; Jason Flemyng, 53, as the Ghost of Christmas Future; and newcomer Lenny Rush as “Tiny” Tim Cratchit.

The film is written by executive producer Steven Knight (“Taboo,” “Peaky Blinders”) and directed by Nick Murphy and produced by FX Productions, the BBC, Scott Free and Tom Hardy’s Hardy Son & Baker.
