The fourth time’s the charm?
Kai Forbath will be the newest Patriots kicker of the season Sunday against the Texans when he steps in for Nick Folk.
The Patriots signed Forbath after Folk had an appendectomy Thursday that will sideline him for at least one game. The team officially released Folk on Friday.
Forbath is the Patriots’ fourth kicker of the year after the team had entered the season having used just one since 2011. Stephen Gostkowski was their dependable kicker until he was placed on injured reserve in October. Mike Nugent replaced him for four games before getting cut after missing three field goals and one extra point. Folk had made 7 of 9 kicks before his surgery.
Forbath has not played since last season, when he converted four of five attempts in three games with the Jaguars. The veteran last played a full season in 2017 for the Vikings.
