A Washington woman was shot dead by her estranged husband as she sat in her car with her three young children and mother, according to authorities and the woman’s family.
Tiffany Hill was killed Tuesday when Keland Hill opened fire through the front windshield and driver’s side window of her minivan in the parking lot of Sarah J. Anderson Elementary School in Vancouver, police and relatives said.
Keland killed himself a short time later following a police chase, authorities said.
Tiffany’s three children, Kayla, Cameron and Jasmine, were in the car and witnessed the shooting but were not physically harmed, the woman’s sister, Tabitha Ojeda, said in a GoFundMe page.
Tiffany’s mother was shot three times and has undergone surgeries on her hands and arms and is expected to survive, Ojeda said.
The shooting occurred after school had already let out for the day.
At the time of her death, Tiffany had an active restraining order against Keland, who had just posted bail on a stalking case days before the slaying, according to police.
Just hours before the murder, a judge approved a motion for him to commute to work using a vehicle.
Court documents obtained by The Columbian show a history of domestic violence by Keland against his wife.
Ojeda said that she, along with another sister will take in the surviving children. Both women live in New York.
“This journey will not be easy,” Ojeda wrote on the GoFundMe page. “It will be emotionally, physically, mentally and financially draining, but with all the love and support we can try to give these children the best lives we possibly can.”
The page had raised more than $60,000 of its $100,000 goal by Friday afternoon.
