A US Customs and Border Protection officer was arrested for allegedly gunning down his wife, who also worked for the agency, in their Texas home on Thanksgiving.
Police responded to a call about “multiple gunshots” Thursday and found Dudley Bernard, 40, standing outside his League City home, near the body of his 42-year-old wife Chauntelle Bernard, a CBP supervisor, ABC News reported.
Authorities said the couple had been celebrating the holiday with their two young sons prior to the shooting.
Bernard was charged by the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office with murder on Friday. He’s being held in jail on $200,000 bond.
No additional details have been released.
Both husband and wife had worked for CBP since 2008, a spokeswoman for the agency said.
He was an agriculture specialist in charge of overseeing the Houston Seaport environment. She was a supervisor CBP officer based in Houston.
“No words can express the sense of loss SCBPO Bernard’s death brings to her colleagues and friends in CBP,” the spokeswoman wrote in a statement.
