The terrifying moment 5 people were thrown from a carnival ride in Thailand
Five people — including two children — were hurled from a pirate-themed ride at a Thailand carnival over the weekend, terrifying new video shows.
The ride, an attraction at an event in the city of Lopburi in central Thailand, was at the peak of its height around 9 p.m. Saturday when a bar holding six people in place opened — throwing five of them from their seats as the mechanical arm completed its rotation, The Sun reported.
Four people landed on the ride’s steel walkway, and one boy was catapulted over a steel railing and landed on the ground, according to the report.
He’s shown with blood coming from a head wound but no other significant injuries.
A 13-year-old girl suffered a broken leg but has since been released from the hospital, according to the report.
A number of other injured people were taken to a local hospital.
A total of 14 people were on the ride.
A 30-year-old man operating the ride at the time, who identified himself as Ake, told The Sun he was sorry for his “carelessness” in neglecting to ensure the bar was secured.
“I was in charge at the control center because my friend who also ran [the] station went to the toilet and then had a break,” Ake said. “I want to apologize to the people who were hurt and their family, but I did not know much about the machine so I did not check anything before I started it.”
The ride was ordered temporarily closed while authorities check the owner’s license, Police Major General Natthapol Sukrasorn told the outlet.
“If the licenses for the ride were legally registered, the owners will be allowed to continue running the business, but if they were not, we will charge them,” Sukrasorn said.
The owner could face prosecution in addition to any legal action by those injured, authorities added.
