For some post-Basel R&R, head to the islands, where a super villa building boom — especially on the island of Providenciales in Turks and Caicos — is luring the jet set.
“We’ve experienced a purchasing explosion over the last few years [due to the] proximity to both Miami and New York,” says Nina Siegenthaler of Sotheby’s International Realty’s Turks & Caicos affiliate, who is representing the Grace Bay Resorts’ Private Villa Collection, including two brand-new mansions dubbed Seaclusion and Seascape.
The adjacent oceanfront spreads can be rented together as a 13-bedroom, 17,300-square-foot compound for roughly $30,000 per night during the holidays. They feature two pools, outdoor entertaining spaces and a private cinema.
Nearby, another big fish dubbed Bajacu — “rising sun” in the island’s native language — just completed a show-stopping renovation after hitting the market for the first time last year. Designed by renowned architect Marco Aldaco, the 18,000-square-foot, six-bedroom, six-full-bathroom beachfront estate is listed with Sotheby’s for $18.8 million. It offers 8.52 acres on one of the island’s highest points. But best of all is the private lagoon and “beach club” that would show up most resorts.
Just down the beach is Cascade Villa, another stunning island retreat that’s big on design. Named for its pool, which cascades over multiple levels and features a swim-up bar, the 9,800-square-foot oasis boasts six “master bedrooms.” It sits on half an acre of land with 100 feet of oceanfront and is asking $7.5 million with Christie’s International Real Estate.
