This risqué costume may cost Florida school official $44,000
A Florida school administrator is facing a pay cut of nearly $44,000 and a possible demotion for donning a barely-there flasher costume to work on Halloween, according to a report.
Mary Coker, director of procurement and warehousing services for Broward County Public Schools, allegedly “inappropriately ‘flashed’ children, staff and colleagues” at the Oct. 31 celebration at Lanier James Education Center, according to a complaint filed with district officials.
“Employees at the brunch were offended and some suggested that they could not tell if Coker was wearing a costume or was truly naked,” the complaint said, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.
Coker, 46, asked partygoers to get rid of any photographic evidence of her elaborate garb — complete with fake nipples and faux pubic hair — after seeing their reactions, according to the complaint.
“Hey everybody, relax, it is fake, please erase the pictures,” Coker allegedly said.
Two children saw Coker’s ensemble, according to the complaint, which claimed her “poor judgment” reflected badly on the district and its employees’ values.
Attempts to reach Coker on Tuesday were unsuccessful and a message seeking comment from district officials about the scheduled vote to demote her was not immediately returned.
Coker could be demoted Tuesday to manager of materials and logistics for the gag.
If approved, her salary would be slashed to $110,701 — or a hefty decrease of $43,584. The pay cut would be her second in 15 months after an investigation found she was making $8,000 more than the maximum allowed for her role, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
Carol Schroeder, a retired office manager who sent a photo of Coker to the Sun-Sentinel and other outlets back in October, declined to comment when reached by The Post.
“I hope you find it equally inappropriate as I do,” Schroeder initially wrote the newspaper in an email.
Photos and two short videos of Coker’s costume were also posted to Facebook, where many people called for her to lose her job.
“I would not allow her to represent our school system,” one woman wrote. “Disgusting.”
