Starbucks issued an apology after two California cops were denied service at the coffee chain, according to a report.
Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco said Saturday that two of the agency’s deputies were ignored during a trip to a location near the University of California at Riverside, news station KTLA reported.
“They asked if anyone was going to help them,” Bianco said. “They were laughed at. They were completely ignored—obviously ignored. Other patrons knew they were being ignored.”
Bianco applauded the deputies who he said “handled themselves well” and left the store to get coffee elsewhere, the report said.
Starbucks confirmed the incident in a statement saying the company was “deeply sorry” for the service, according to the news outlet.
“There is simply no excuse for how two Riverside deputies were ignored for nearly 5 minutes at our store on Thursday evening,” the statement said. “We are deeply sorry and reached out to apologize directly to them. We take full responsibility for any intentional or unintentional disrespect shown to law enforcement on whom we depend every day to keep our stores and communities safe.”
The company said the employees involved in the incident will not be scheduled to work while they investigate the incident.
The incident comes after a cop at a location in Oklahoma received an order with the word “PIG” on the label.
