Urban Meyer isn’t doing anything to dispel rumors of him making a move to the NFL.
Meyer, the 55-year-old who has three national titles as a college coach, was in Redskins owner Dan Snyder’s box Sunday for the team’s loss to the Eagles.
At one point Meyer was sitting with Alex Smith, whom Meyer coached at Utah for two seasons. Current Redskins starter, rookie Dwayne Haskins, played under Meyer at Ohio State.
Washington is in the market for a new coach after canning Jay Gruden earlier this season. It’s the Dallas Cowboys job, however, that Meyer has been most linked to as Jason Garrett’s seat has grown hotter.
Meyer, currently a college analyst for Fox, raised plenty of eyebrows in October when he said during an interview with Colin Cowherd that he’d “absolutely” consider becoming Cowboys coach if they called. Publicly discussing coaching jobs that aren’t open is generally frowned upon.
Earlier this month, NFL Network reported the Cowboys have “very real interest” in Meyer, who won two of his national titles at Florida and another at Ohio State.
If the Cowboys do indeed want Meyer, his presence in Snyder’s box indicates they may have competition.
