Trump tweets he ‘DID NOTHING WRONG’ on morning of impeachment debate

The White House said Wednesday that President Trump would be hard at work taking meetings as impeachment proceedings began — but he still found time to offer a running commentary on Twitter.

“The President will be working all day. He will be briefed by staff throughout that day, and could catch some of the proceedings between meetings,” press secretary Stephanie Grisham said in a statement.

A short time later, the commander-in-chief fired off the latest in a morning-long series of tweets and re-tweets.

“SUCH ATROCIOUS LIES BY THE RADICAL LEFT, DO NOTHING DEMOCRATS. THIS IS AN ASSAULT ON AMERICA, AND AN ASSAULT ON THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!!!!” he railed in a message posted about 12:45 p.m.

Earlier, the president asserted that he “DID NOTHING WRONG” as the House was poised to begin debate on impeaching him over his dealings with Ukraine.

“Can you believe that I will be impeached today by the Radical Left, Do Nothing Democrats, AND I DID NOTHING WRONG! A terrible Thing. Read the Transcripts,” the president said. “This should never happen to another President again. Say a PRAYER!”

The posting came less than two hours before members of the House would start debating whether Trump should be impeached for abusing the power of his office for pressuring Ukraine to probe a political rival and obstructing House Democrats in their investigation of the allegations.

Democrats claim Trump used military aid as leverage to force Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to announce an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter, who had worked for a Ukrainian energy company.

The House Judiciary Committee last Friday approved the two articles of impeachment that the House will vote on later Wednesday.

Trump, on the eve of the impeachment vote, sent a blistering letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi accusing her and Democrats of trying to overturn the results of the 2016 election.

“This is nothing more than an illegal, partisan attempted coup that will, based on recent sentiment, badly fail at the voting booth,” Trump wrote. “You are not just after me, as President, you are after the entire Republican Party.”
