Two dead after wrong-way car crash near Southampton
Two people were killed in a head-on car crash near Southampton, police said Wednesday.
A 2004 Mercedes-Benz was speeding eastbound on the westbound side of Sunrise Highway near Exit 64 at around 10 p.m. when the driver collided with a 2008 Toyota Camry driven by a 28-year-old woman, according to New York State Police.
The woman, Michelle Navas, of Hicksville, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
The driver of the Benz, identified as Gumercindo Tinit-Tezen, 31, from Mastic, died at Peconic Bay Medical Center, police said.
There was no one else in either of the cars and no other car was involved in the accident, police added.
It is unclear at this time whether either of the drivers were under the influence.
