The Yankees had a long line of executives on the dais Wednesday during the introductory press conference for Gerrit Cole. But not one of their most familiar figures at these type of events.
Assistant GM Jean Afterman was in Japan and, thus, not available to attend the Yankees’ biggest press conference in years. But she also is going to have a change in locale, not job designation.
Afterman, a key lieutenant to Brian Cashman since 2001, will now be doing her job from Sonoma, Calif., moving home for family reasons.
Cashman said that he did not anticipate any change in Afterman’s job description or effectiveness from doing the job remotely. Cashman said Afterman will attend spring training and be in The Bronx once a month for a homestand during the regular season.
