Odell Beckham’s declaration that he’s “not going anywhere” appears to be an informed statement rather than an expression of his desires.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that Beckham was told by Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey that Beckham, who is under contract through 2023, will remain with the team.
“They have told him, ‘We do not plan to trade you.’ We want you around,” Rapoport said on NFL Gameday.
Beckham, 27, said Wednesday that he’s “not going anywhere. I’ll be here. We’re going to figure this thing out. It’s too special to leave.”
Earlier this month, Beckham raised doubts about his future in Cleveland — which acquired him from the Giants during the offseason — by saying he “couldn’t sit here and tell you whether I’m going to be here, want to be here, don’t want to be here.”
That was followed by a Fox Sports report which said Beckham has been telling opponents “Come get me” because he wanted out of Cleveland. Video then surfaced of Beckham speaking to 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo with his mouth covered.
The Browns’ drama only grew with an NFL Network report that Jarvis Landry also told the Cardinals “Come get me” during last week’s loss, during which Landry got into a brief sideline spat with coach Freddie Kitchens. Landry vehemently denied the report, telling reporter Michael Silver, “don’t try to slander my name.”
