The newborn taken from slain mom Heidi Broussard has been reunited with her family in Texas.
Three-week-old Margot Carey was returned to her father, Shane Carey, days after she was found unharmed at the Houston home of Magen Fieramusca, 33, who is accused of faking her own pregnancy before allegedly kidnapping Broussard’s baby.
Carey’s father, Ty, announced the baby’s homecoming at a Monday night vigil, according to the “Today” show.
“That’s the best thing that could ever happen,” the grandfather said of the return of the baby, who was just 2 weeks old when she went missing with her mom.
“Just a tiny window of light is shining through and that’s a blessing,” he added, according to CBS Austin.
DNA proved Margot was the dead woman’s child and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services stopped seeking temporary custody, CBS said.
Broussard, 33, was found dead in the trunk of a car at Fieramusca’s home in Houston last Thursday, more than a week after she went missing from her home 160 miles away in Austin. Her cause of death was determined to be “ligature strangulation,” KXAN said.
Fieramusca, Broussard’s close friend for more than two decades, has been charged with two counts of kidnapping and one count of tampering with a corpse. More charges could follow, police have said.
She is accused of faking her own pregnancy and even had a baby registry listing the same due date as Broussard’s.
A mutual friend, Rachel West, told “Today” that she spoke daily to Fieramusca while their friend was still missing — not realizing that the baby crying in the background was the missing Margot.
“That is something that will haunt me for the rest of my life,” she told the morning show.
She now believes Fieramusca “wanted that baby from the get-go.”
“No doubt in my mind, she wanted that baby, and she didn’t care how she got it,” West claimed.
