Teen girl, 10-year-old brother fight off carjacker in Chicago who tried to steal family’s SUV
Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal.
A 10-year-old Chicago boy and his teen sister channelled “Home Alone” to take down a carjacker, clocking the crook with an iPad as he tried to drive off — with siblings inside the vehicle.
“I said, ‘I’ll get out, fine,’ and then I started hitting him with the iPad,” recalled punchy pre-teen Hasnain Muratab to ABC affiliate WLS-TV.
“I felt brave and strong.”
While their dad was picking up dinner at a nearby Domino’s, Muratab, older sister Imama, and their 5-year-old little sister were sitting in the back seat of the family’s running 2018 Toyota Highlander late Sunday, when the creep threw open the door.
“This dude just jumps in the car and he looks back and I realize it’s not my dad,” Imama, 16, told the outlet.
“So I go, ‘Who are you!’” the teen continued. “And he starts driving really fast, going in like a zig-zag pattern.
“And he goes, ‘Get out or I’m going to shoot you.’”
With the car whizzing away from the Domino’s and through the Windy City’s West Ridge neighborhood, the teen realized she had to do something — and that she couldn’t do it alone.
“I was just scared for my life. I didn’t know what to do,” she told WLS-TV. “I was in panic mode, like, I wanted to cry but I knew I had to do something that can help.”
So she screamed to wake up her sleeping brother, who, after feinting that he would follow the crook’s orders and get out of the SUV, unleashed his inner Kevin McCallister and pummeled the thug with the tablet.
That’s when Imama tagged in.
“My phone was dead so I couldn’t call 911,” said the teen. “I see my dad’s phone in the passenger seat so I, like, try to strangle the dude from the back because I was right behind him.”
Keeping a hold on the carjacker, Imama eventually grabbed her dad’s phone and called 911.
The crook hopped free and jumped into a Toyota Camry, apparently driven by his accomplices.
The Camry — itself previously reported stolen — was located by cops a short time later at a nearby gas station with five people inside, authorities told WLS-TV.
One of the suspects got away, but four were arrested by cops and charged with criminal trespass to vehicles: Ralph Enriquez, 22; Kaily and Steffy Lagunas, both 19; and a 16-year-old boy whose name was not released by authorities.
The report did not specify which — if any — of the five was implicated in the carjacking, but the investigation is ongoing.
The kids were unharmed during their wild ride.
