K-pop kings BTS whipped the internet into a frenzy with the announcement Tuesday of a new album, “Map of the Soul: 7.”
The internationally beloved Korean band made the announcement over social media, quickly dominating the Twittersphere with the hashtag #7isComing. Just three hours later, fans had liked the tweet more than 303,000 times.
“Map of the Soul: 7” will be released on Feb. 21, and the pre-orders will begin on Thursday. The company behind the band, Big Hit Entertainment, hinted in a tweet that the tour may be in April 2020.
The name of the album is the latest in the septet’s “Map of the Soul” series, with the number 7 possibly alluding to the number of years they’ve been together, the number of members in the band or that this will be their seventh album. The announcement was also made on Jan. 7.
The highly anticipated album follows their 2019 EP, “Map of the Soul: Persona,” which was South Korea’s highest-selling album ever. Members J-Hope, Jimin, Jin, Jungkook, RM, Suga and V have drawn Beatles-like crowds at their performances, which included two sold-out shows at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey last year.
At the end of November, BTS wrapped up their worldwide Love Yourself: Speak Yourself tour, which raked in $117 million. They’ve recorded with American hit-makers including Ed Sheeran and Charli XCX.
Last Tuesday, BTS performed at the 2020 “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” with Ryan Seacrest, along with Post Malone, Paula Abdul, Megan Thee Stallion and the Jonas Brothers.
