Ivanka Trump wins over CES crowd after initial backlash
The storm over Ivanka Trump’s CES keynote speech died down quickly enough.
The president’s eldest daughter addressed the trade show as the keynote speaker on Tuesday, touting her dad’s economic achievements and promoting his policies.
Despite the #boycottCES hashtag that preceded the talk, the audience politely took it all in. There were no protests or snarky comments from the packed auditorium, which seated Silicon Valley bigs like Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff.
The biggest drama came when Trump mentioned the December passage of paid parental leave for federal employees, which received a spattering of applause from the crowd.
“We cannot ask all of you to offer this benefit to your workforces if we’re not willing to do it ourselves,” she said. “We must lead by example.”
CES had been blasted for giving Trump center stage despite her lack of experience and after years of ignoring women for top speaking roles.
