He’s getting closer.
Zion Williamson flashed his elite-level athleticism ahead of the Knicks showdown with the Pelicans on Friday night, throwing down a between-the-legs dunk during a pregame shootaround.
Williamson, the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft, has yet to see the court after undergoing surgery on a torn meniscus before his rookie season. The former Duke forward was given an initial six-to-eight week timetable, but that has already been surpassed with the NBA season almost 50 percent over and the Pelicans languishing at 13-25.
Williamson’s injury has been a major disappointment for NBA fans excited to watch the generational talent ply his trade in the league, but his pregame dunk will provide a flicker of hope that his return could soon be on the way.
Just a couple of weeks ago, ESPN reported that the Pelicans were trying to teach Zion — famously one of the league’s heaviest players — how to walk and run differently.
It appears he can fly once again.
