Joe Brady, the mastermind behind LSU’s national championship offense, will become the Carolina Panthers’ offensive coordinator, according to ESPN.
The 30-year-old Brady is considered one of the most highly touted up-and-coming offensive coaches in football, thanks to his spread offense that revolutionized LSU, and as passing game coordinator was integral in the development of Heisman Trophy-quarterback Joe Burrow.
LSU had the nation’s top scoring offense and routed Clemson on Monday to win the national championship.
Prior to the title game, Brady agreed to a three-year extension with LSU that would have doubled his $410,000 salary. That reportedly included an out-clause if the NFL came calling, as there was speculation Panthers’ first-year head coach Matt Rhule was interested in Brady.
Before taking LSU by storm for one season, where he also was named the nation’s top assistant, Brady spent two years as an offensive assistant with the New Orleans Saints and worked at Penn State and William & Mary.
Brady will be the youngest coordinator in the NFL, while Burrow is expected to be the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL draft.
