Odell Beckham Jr. is kicking off 2020 with a championship — sort of — but his celebrations could come at a cost.
While celebrating LSU’s 42-25 win over the Clemson Tigers in the college football championship on Monday night, the Browns receiver and LSU alum was seen handing a wad of cash to receiver Justin Jefferson before the pair hugged it out in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The clip, which has since gone viral, could potentially catch the eye of the NCAA.
LSU officials claimed the money was fake, according to The Advocate.
Jefferson, a junior, was a key part of LSU’s explosive offense this season with 1,540 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns. There is a strong chance he declares for the NFL draft.
When he wasn’t handing out money, Beckham was also seen engaging with fans and taking photos with Browns teammate and fellow LSU alum, Jarvis Landry.
Beckham played for LSU from 2011 to 2013 before declaring for the 2014 NFL Draft. He was selected 12th overall by the Giants, making one playoff appearance during his five seasons in New York — which was met with a boatload of controversy.
In March, Beckham was traded to Cleveland, in what was expected to be a breakout season for the Browns. Instead, the team fell short of their lofty expectations, resulting in the firing of first-year coach Freddie Kitchens after a 6-10 season. Beckham guaranteed he will return to Cleveland for 2020 after trade speculation surfaced.
