Department of Education administrators will try to mend fences with elected officials in Queens on Friday — following schools Chancellor Richard Carranza’s abrupt exit from a heated Jan. 17 community meeting.
While Carranza will not be attending, senior DOE officials will huddle with a range of politicians, including Rep. Grace Meng and City Councilmen Barry Grodenchik and Peter Koo.
Carranza was taken to task for departing the rowdy meeting when two parents whose kids were assaulted at MS 158 Marie Curie demanded to be heard amid jeers.
An invitation to Friday’s meeting at Assemblywoman Nily Rozic’s office was extended to state Sen. John Liu, who scuffled with Carranza on Twitter Wednesday after the chancellor claimed to have been “set up” at the meeting.
Liu said Thursday that he won’t be attending and will send a representative.
The DOE has said District 26 Superintendent Danielle Giunta has personally been attending to MS 158’s concerns and reporting back to Carranza daily.
