The family of missing Connecticut mother Jennifer Dulos has issued a statement on the death of her estranged husband and alleged killer, Fotis Dulos.
“This is a horrific tragedy all around,” family spokeswoman Carrie Luft said in a statement Thursday evening. “Please respect the privacy of the families and loved ones involved.”
Fotis Dulos, 52, died Thursday, two days after an apparent suicide attempt at his Farmington mansion, said his lawyer, Norm Pattis.
The luxury home builder from Greece had been hospitalized in dire condition at Jacobi Medical Center in The Bronx since Tuesday, when authorities found him inside his car in his garage.
Officials said he rigged a hose to the exhaust pipe of his car in order to poison himself.
Dulos had been on house arrest at the time, after being charged Jan. 7 with the murder and kidnapping of his 50-year-old wife, Jennifer, who vanished in May after dropping their five kids off at school.
On the day he was found unconscious, Dulos had been facing an emergency bond hearing that could have sent him back to the slammer.
Authorities reportedly found a note he left behind proclaiming his innocence.
The search didn’t turn up any new clues as to what happened to Jennifer, whose body hasn’t been found.
