President Trump ripped the “radical socialist” Democratic presidential candidates at a Des Moines rally Thursday night four days ahead of the Iowa caucuses.
“This November, we’re going to defeat the radical socialist Democrats that are right down the street,” Trump declared, speaking at Drake University, as the Senate impeachment trial against him continued.
Similar to his Tuesday rally, the president also blasted the impeachment proceedings against him.
“We are having probably the best years we have ever had in the history of our country — and I just got impeached,” Trump said.
“Can you believe these people? They impeach Trump,” he said, referring to himself in the third person.
Between listing some of his administration’s accomplishments — like the new North American trade deal, the USMCA — Trump picked apart a number of the Democratic presidential hopefuls
“We have some people, let’s not talk about them,” Trump told the crowd before mentioning Michael Bloomberg.
“What happened to mini Mike? Where is he? He’s not running, he’s skipping four or five states. Mini Mike — I’ve had him up to here,” he said, tapping himself about chest high.
Bloomberg decided to skip the early-nominating states, including Iowa and New Hampshire, to focus instead on more populous states in the months ahead.
Trump also took aim at former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, claiming, “He presides over a city that’s failed, in a state that’s having the greatest year they’ve ever had.”
The president Thursday night routinely shrugged off his potential Democratic challengers, proclaiming, “We are going to keep that beautiful, gorgeous, incredible White House” in 2020.
While Trump was on stage, senators on Capitol Hill were still in the questioning phase of the impeachment trial.
On Friday, the Senate will hold a vote to determine whether witnesses will be called.
Democrats feel key witnesses, such as former national security adviser John Bolton, are paramount to shed more light on Trump’s attempt to persuade Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Joe Biden.
If the vote is rejected, Republicans said, the trial could conclude Friday with Trump’s acquittal.
