Apple Inc. has become the latest victim of coronavirus in China.
The company revealed Saturday it would close all its official mainland stores and corporate offices until Feb. 9 as the disease continues to spread in the country, Reuters reported.
So far the virus has killed 259 people and sickened thousands more, with the vast majority of cases being found in China.
“Out of an abundance of caution and based on the latest advice from leading health experts, we’re closing all our corporate offices, stores, and contact centers in mainland China through February 9,” Apple said in a statement. “We will continue to closely monitor the situation and we look forward to reopening our stores as soon as possible.”
The company is the latest business to put the breaks on its China operations in the wake of the outbreak. Last week Starbucks also closed half its stores in the country over safety concerns for employees and customers, the BBC reported. Fast-food giant McDonald’s has also shuttered at least 300 locations, according to the Guardian.
