Trump calls Bernie Sanders a ‘communist’ in pre-Super Bowl interview
President Trump called Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders a “communist” in an interview that aired Sunday.
“I think he’s a communist. I mean, you know, look, I think of communism when I think of Bernie,” the president told Sean Hannity in a pre-Super Bowl interview on Fox News.
“Now, you could say socialist, but didn’t he get married in Moscow?” Trump added, as Hannity said Sanders went on his honeymoon in the former Soviet Union in 1988.
“I think of Bernie sort of as a socialist but far beyond a socialist,” Trump continued. “At least he’s true to what he believes.”
Trump’s comments aired a day before the Iowa caucuses where Sanders, who has been promoting a “Medicare for all” health care plan, has been leading in many polls.
