MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Nick Bosa was in tears when Patrick Mahomes shattered his Super Bowl 2020 dreams.
Mahomes staged a heroic fourth-quarter comeback from a 10-point deficit to carry the Chiefs to a 31-20 victory over the distraught 49ers.
He left some of the 49ers defenders at a loss for words.
Bosa was asked if Mahomes looked like a completely different quarterback. “No,” he said.
Richard Sherman was victimized on a 38-yard Sammy Watkins catch on the winning TD drive.
“He made a play,” Sherman said.
Did the 49ers change anything against Mahomes?
“Nothing,” Sherman said.
DeForest Buckner was asked if Mahomes did anything that surprised him.
“No,” Buckner said, “it was the same stuff that we saw on film.”
But the stuff they saw on film destroyed them even after their vaunted pass-rushers had rattled him entering the fourth quarter.
“He started feeling the pressure and he started throwing up ducks,” Buckner said. “We got two picks. We were getting in there with four. It’s just there were times where he broke contain and he just made a good play and we didn’t make one.”
49ers linebacker Fred Warner was asked if Mahomes did anything that surprised him.
“No, he’s an outstanding player, we knew that,” Warner said. “They just made more plays than us.”
