Four years after being formed on the hit show “Chasing Destiny,” a lot has changed for June’s Diary.
The girl group has swapped label backing for life as independent artists, secured a travel sponsorship with Spirit Airlines, dropped their “Male Edition” mixtape, added the EPs “All of Us” and “Take Your Time” to their discography, and made appearances at both Essence Festival and as opening acts on several high-profile tours, including The Great Xscape Tour with the iconic group Xscape.
And let’s not forget the release of the new video for their single “I Aint With It” and a recent crowing as Elle’s Song Association champions.
But with Ashly Williams, Brienna “Bri” DeVlught, Gabrielle “Gabby” Carriero, Kristal Smith, and Shyann Roberts all living in separate parts of the country, finding moments to write and produce music together in-person require a little extra planning.
The creative process often starts with a visit to their group text thread and ends with them booking flights to meetup in one location for a recording session.
“If anybody has [song] ideas, I don’t think anybody hesitates to send a text message. And then we just work it out,” Kristal told the New York Post during the group’s visit to New York City ahead of their “I Ain’t With It” video’s debut. “Then we get with [Spirit Airlines] to set up the flights, we’ll meet in one place, and we just do our thing.”
The past few years of travel for recording, touring, and press runs have clearly made June’s Diary quite the travel pros.
And as they bubbled with excitement over their upcoming video release, the ladies shared just a few of the products they swear by when it’s time to hit the road.
