The total, worldwide death toll from the coronavirus rose to 813 on Saturday, a number that now exceeds the number of people killed by SARS in 2002 and 2003.
Of the 813, all but two died in mainland China, primarily in and around the city of Wuhan, which is the epicenter of the outbreak, according to data posted online by the Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
The SARS epidemic claimed 774 people worldwide, but was actually more deadly, killing one out of 10 people infected. The coronavirus fatality rate has been estimated by the World Health Organization at 3%, meaning an average three out of every 100 infected patients dies.
