After hiccups in the originally proposed three-way trade between the Red Sox, Dodgers and Twins, a new deal sending Mookie Betts and David Price to the Dodgers has been agreed upon, The Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed.
The Red Sox will get outfielder Alex Verdugo, shortstop prospect Jeter Downs — who is named after Yankees legend Derek Jeter — and catcher Connor Wong from Los Angeles.
Boston’s issues with Twins pitcher Brusdar Graterol’s medical records held up the original deal. Now, according to The Athletic, Graterol and another prospect will go to the Dodgers for Kenta Maeda and cash.
Medical reviews Sunday were completed without any issues. The Dodgers separately had a trade in place to send Joc Pederson to the Angels, but that no longer is on the table, according to The Athletic.
The Red Sox had been trying to trade Betts ever since it became clear he would test free agency next offseason, with the 27-year-old former AL MVP and World Series champion possibly in line for a $400 million-plus payday.
Meanwhile the Dodgers, who have played in two of the last three World Series, had been looking all winter for the missing piece to put them over the top. With Betts, the Dodgers are likely co-favorites to win the World Series along with the Yankees.
Boston will send cash to Los Angeles to cover roughly half of the $96 million remaining on Price’s contract over the next three years, according to multiple reports.
The Red Sox, who beat the Dodgers in the 2018 World Series, now are expected to rebuild on the fly without their superstar right fielder.
