Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg narrowly beat Sen. Bernie Sanders in the race for state delegates in the problem-plagued Iowa caucuses, party officials said Sunday.
Updated results released by the party on Sunday show Buttigieg captured 14 delegates while Sanders won 12.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren finished in third with eight delegates, and former Vice President Joe Biden placed fourth, capturing six, according to the numbers.
Last Thursday, the party released numbers from 97 percent of the precincts in the state, showing Sanders and Buttigieg in a virtual dead heat in the first contest of the Democratic primary season.
Buttigieg had captured 550 state delegate equivalents, while Sanders trailed by just three with 547, according to results from the Iowa Democratic Party.
Sanders performed extremely well in the satellite caucuses, which were set up for caucus-goers who couldn’t make their assigned precinct in each of Iowa’s four congressional districts, the numbers revealed.
The caucuses last Monday night descended into chaos, as reported “inconsistencies” in the tallies ended with zero results being announced.
