Rebel Wilson and James Corden poke fun at visual effects in ‘Cats’ at Oscars 2020

This is why we can’t have nice things.

James Corden and Rebel Wilson donned furry catsuits to present the award for Best Visual Effects at the 2020 Oscars at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, subtly poking fun at the critically-panned “Cats” movie.

“As cast members for the motion picture ‘Cats,’ nobody more than us understands the importance of good visual effects,” said Wilson and Corden, while swatting the air.

The embarrassing display poked fun at their flop of a film, which heavily relied on creepy CGI to create the effect of fur on the actors. Fans were highly displeased when the trailer dropped, and even angrier when the musical movie came out.

“Director Tom Hooper’s movie is a huge failure because he’s completely abandoned the fundamentals of what made ‘Cats’ a terrific show: sublime music, captivating dance and an intoxicating atmosphere,” The Post’s critic Johnny Oleksinski wrote in a review. “Instead, the director chooses to shake the camera around as though he can’t find his footing, uses dreadful CGI-human hybrids that look worse than makeup and needlessly buttresses the plot with exposition.”

The production company had to send out a re-edited version of the movie to theaters after eagle-eyed audiences noticed unfinished effects.

Though the movie was once hoped to be a contender for tonight’s ceremony, with big names like Idris Elba, Taylor Swift and Andrew Lloyd Webber attached, its terrible effects and lowly box-office earnings destroyed those chances. The movie lost more than $100 million dollars.
