New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced an April date for a special election to fill the upstate congressional seat left vacant when disgraced former Rep. Chris Collins resigned.
The governor said the election in the 27th Congressional District will be held on April 28 — the same day of the state’s presidential primary vote.
The Republican Collins, the first member of congress to endorse Donald Trump‘s presidential campaign, stepped down in September 2019 after pleading guilty to insider trading charges and lying to the FBI.
A Manhattan federal judge last month sentenced the 69-year-old Collins to two years and two months in prison.
Cuomo also said a special election will be held on the same day to fill the seat in the 12th Assembly District in Suffolk County vacated by Andrew Raia and the 31st Assembly District in Queens seat following the resignation of Michele Titus.
Titus was elected a New York City civil court judge in November, and Raia won an election for Huntington town clerk.
